WRITE US!Nowadays, spinal degeneration is a worldwide disease that affects spinal joints, ligaments and intervertebral discs as well. Many decades of degeneration lead to the development of permanent lower back pain, which is difficult to treat in severe cases. It would be best to prevent degeneration, but in most cases the patient comes to the doctor with already developed complaints. According to the state of medical science, for a long time there were two main possibilities in such cases; non-surgical treatments (e.g. physiotherapy, massage, etc.) and spinal surgery. However, a significant number of patients reported that conservative treatments are no longer sufficient, but from a medical point of view, the lesions are not considered serious enough to require surgery immediately. In these cases, spinal regenerative therapies may be a solution.
Regenerative medicine offers new, innovative treatment options for pain from degenerated spine. Regenerative medicine deals with the restoration of human cells, tissues and normal function as much as possible. As part of the treatment, bioactive substances or stem cells from the patient are returned to the degenerated areas, where they exert their effect and start the healing process.
Treatment does not require hospitalization, it can be carried out on an outpatient basis. During the procedure, the patient’s own blood is taken, which is then centrifuged under special conditions (sterile, individual kit) and the platelet-rich part is extracted from it. The essence of the treatment is that this platelet-rich part is also rich in bioactive proteins, which, when delivered to the joints and ligaments of the spine, help the regeneration of the body. Return to the body is carried out with the help of a thin needle under ultrasound or X-ray control. The great advantage of the treatment is that no foreign substances or medicines enter the patient’s body, as the concentrate extracted from one’s own blood is returned, and it provides an opportunity to start the body’s “self-healing” processes.
If the main source of complaints is a degenerated disc, then it is necessary to treat the disc itself in a targeted manner. Disc degeneration starts in everyone, starting from the age of 20, the question is how quickly the process takes place. Degeneration results in a decrease in the water content and resistance of the intervertebral disc, and ultimately in a decrease in stability. The goal of the treatment is to introduce cells into the diseased disc that improve stability and resistance, thus reducing pain. The procedure takes place in an operating room (does not require anesthesia, one-day surgery manner). Under sterile conditions, the surgeon takes a small amount of the mixture from the patient’s hip blade, which is then centrifuged under special conditions (sterile, individual kit) and the part rich in connective tissue cells is extracted from it. Return to the intervertebral disc is carried out with the help of a thin needle under X-ray control (even several intervertebral discs can be treated simultaneously). The intervention does not require cutting, so there is no suture picking either.
